Innovation, Creativity and Geography

I recently had the opportunity to speak to a group of entrepreneurship majors at our local university.  I covered a lot of ground in just over an hour, and I will share excerpts of my remarks in this blog over the next few weeks.

I wanted to start by sharing about the “geographic bias” I dealt with when I started my first software company in the early 1980’s.  On numerous occasions back then (and still periodically now), this bias sounded something like: “We love your software, but you’re in Stillwater, Oklahoma…” The assumption, of course, was that technology and innovation had to come out of silicon valley or some other tech center.
